The care handbook Physician-led peptide therapy

Read at your own pace. Keep a question in the margin.

What is it? Who leads care? What happens? What will I pay? What could go wrong? How do I decide?

A closer look at weight medicines

Weight medicines need their own set of questions

Separate the approved products from the claims made about copies.

Bring the concern you want help with Find out which kind of product is being discussed Ask what was approved Ask why a medicine would be made to order Weight medicines need their own set of questions

Put the names in context

Ask for the ingredient and the finished product together.

Ask which use in the product label relates to your concern.

Ask whether the proposed form is the form studied or approved.

GLP-1 is a natural substance in your body that helps control blood sugar and appetite. Some medicines copy its action; people also use GLP-1 as a name for those medicines.

In the US record dated September 26, 2026, there are approved semaglutide products (Ozempic, Wegovy). Tirzepatide products (Mounjaro, Zepbound) also have approvals.

Compounding is preparation to order for a patient. It does not produce an FDA-approved generic of semaglutide or tirzepatide, under the position checked September 26, 2026.

Ask why a copy is being offered now

What rule allows the maker to prepare this exact medicine?

What need does the prescriber say the change meets for me?

At the September 26, 2026 check, the shortage list named neither tirzepatide nor semaglutide injection; earlier shortages had allowed wider compounding.

An empty shelf locally does not establish a national FDA shortage.

Adding a vitamin can still leave a preparation classed as essentially a copy; that was FDA’s stated approach in the September 26, 2026 record.

A note to keep

Do not try to settle a product’s status from a price advert. Ask for the exact product and the current basis for offering it.

Check the rules for retatrutide and cagrilintide

Neither retatrutide nor cagrilintide may be used for compounding under federal law, according to FDA’s position recorded on September 26, 2026.

Carry this thought

The name of a drug family does not tell you the status of a particular preparation.

Ask for the bill after the opening offer Pause when the offer avoids the hard questions

This is a reading guide for patients; it offers neither clinical care nor medicines.
